Adsense is a simple concept! The publisher or the realtor (that's you) inserts a java script into their website. And each time the page is accessed, the java script will pull advertisements from the Adsense program.

The ads that are targeted will be related to the content that is contained on the web page serving the ad. If a visitor clicks on an advertisement, you, as the webmaster serving the ad, will earn a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying the search engine for the click.

When you accumulate $100.00 in earnings, Google Adsense will send you a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to the payment address you supplied when you signed up. This is just another security precaution that Adsense has in place to protect their publishers.

Once you've been mailed a PIN number, your account payments will be on hold until the PIN is entered in your account. You can still have access to your account and earn money; you just won't be paid until the PIN is entered. If it hasn't been entered within 1 year, your account will be disabled.

To enter your PIN after you receive it in the mail, log into your Google Adsense account. Click on the My Account tab, then click on edit. Update the appropriate field and click submit changes. What Are URL Channels and How to Organize Them:

URL Channels allow you to view detailed information about the performance of your Adsense for Content pages.

Suppose you have two blogs, one about writing and the other about jogging. It might be interesting and profitable to track which one is getting more clicks.

Log in to your Adsense account and click on Adsense for Content. Scroll down until you see Channels and click on manage channels. You may need to scroll up when the next page loads. Under Manage URL Channels you would type writing and click on Create New Channel.

You will immediately see writing in the Active URL Channels dialogue box. Now type in jogging in the same channel text box and again click on Create New Channel. You now have two channels and you will be able to track your progress on each channel.

You can view channel reports from the Advanced Report page under the Reports tab. Choose Adsense for Content, choose the date range and then select the Channels Data radio button.

Choose any number of active channels by holding down the CTRL key. Next click on Display Report. It's as easy as that.

Summarily, there's no magic involved in generating AdSense income. Instead, it's a simple concept that is easy to implement. All it takes to succeed is a little time and effort, like most other things that are worthwhile.

Google, being the undisputable leader in search engines from then until now, is placing a high importance on the quality and relevancy of its search engines. Most especially now that the company is public property. In order to keep the shareholders and users of its engines happy, the quality of the returned results are given extreme importance.

For this same reason, doing the wrong things in the Adsense and other forms of advertisements, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will result in a severe penalty, may get you banned and even have your account terminated. Nothing like a good action taken to keep wrongdoers from doing the same things over again.

So for those who are thinking of getting a career in Adsense, do not just think of the strategies you will be using to generate more earnings. Consider some things first before you actually get involved.

Hidden texts. Filling your advertisement page with texts to small to read, has the same color as the background and using css for the sole purpose of loading them with rich keywords content and copy will earn you a penalty award that is given to those who are hiding links.

Page cloaking. There is a common practice of using browser or bot sniffers to serve the bots of a different page other than the page your visitors will see. Loading a page with a bot that a human user will never see is a definite no-no. This is tricking them to click on something that you want but they may not want to go to.

Multiple submissions. Submitting multiple copies of your domain and pages is another thing to stay away from. For example, trying to submit a URL of an Adsense as two separate URL's is the same as inviting trouble and even termination. Likewise, this is a reason to avoid auto submitters for those who are receiving submissions. Better check first if your domain is submitted already an a certain search engine before you try to submit to it again. If you see it there, then move on. No point contemplating whether to try and submit there again.

Link farms. Be wary of who and what are you linking your Adsense to. The search engines know that you cannot control your links in. But you can certainly control what you link to. Link farming has always been a rotten apple in the eyes of search engines, especially Google. That is reason enough to try and avoid them. Having a link higher than 100 on a single page will classify you as a link farm so try and not to make them higher than that.

Page rank for sale. If you have been online for quite some time, you will notice that there are some sites selling their PR links or trading them with other sites. If you are doing this, expect a ban anytime in the future. It is okay to sell ads or gain the link. But doing it on direct advertisement of your page rank is a way to get on search engines bad side.

Doorways. This is similar to cloaking pages. The common practice of a page loaded with choice keyword ads aimed at redirecting visitors to another “user-friendly” page is a big issue among search engines. There are many seo firms offering this kind of services. Now that you know what they actually are, try to avoid them at all costs.

Multiple domains having the same content. In case you are not aware of it, search engines look at domains IP's, registry dates and many others. Having multiple domains having the same exact content is not something you can hide from them. The same goes with content multiplied many times on separate pages, sub domains and forwarding multiple domains to the same content.

Many of the above techniques apply to most search engines and is not entirely for Google only. By having a mind set that you are building your Adsense together with your pages for the human users and not for bots, you can be assured of the great things for your ads and sites.

A good money making Adsense site needs a number of elements in place before it will succeed.

In the article below I discuss technical assets and techniques you should be using. You should also consider the site design, but that's a whole other article.

I've broken down the basics below:

1: Regular Content Updates
Ideally you are adding fresh, unique, keyword targeted content to you site on a regular basis. Every few days at a minimum, daily if possible.

The search engines will come back to your site more often, rank it higher and in turn provide more traffic if you consistently add fresh unique content.

A naturally growing site gets the search engines interested and keeps them interested.

If you don't like to write or can't write then you can outsource this chore to a third party.

On the other hand you can also use freely available articles from the numerous article directories out there. This is not ideal because the content is not unique and will most likely be found on hundreds of other sites.

Another option is to use 'Private Label Rights' articles. These are articles that you buy and use as starting point for your own unique article. Essentially you re-write the PLR article. Don't be tempted to use these as is, otherwise you may as well use the article directories as your article source instead.

Which ever route you choose you should start with a good number of pages on which to build.

You need to place your Adsense directly into the body copy of each of your articles for the highest CTR (Click Through Rate).

2: Rotate Your Content
It's fine consistently adding new content but if your homepage stays the same you're seriously missing out.

You should endeavour to have content rotate on a daily basis on your homepage. This gives the impression of a site update. You can do this by hand or you can have a script on your site rotate content. I know which I would choose.

In fact I have a script that chooses a random article from the hundreds on my site and posts it automatically to my homepage for 24hrs before selecting a new article and doing the same again for the next 24hrs.

In essence to both visitors and the search engines my site is updated daily.

3: RSS Feeds
To further make you site appear to update regularly you should introduce a relevant RSS feed. I won't go into the details of exactly what RSS is here. If you're not sure do a Google.

Basically you will get fresh relevant links appearing on your site at regular intervals.

There are numerous site scripts available now to allow you to show RSS feeds on your site. When you choose one make sure it is either PHP, CGI or ASP. Don't use javascript!

The reason for this is that the above mentioned languages will display the RSS feeds as HTML which the search engines read as content.

Javascript will be ignored! It does not convert the feed to a search engine friendly format which the above languages will do.

4: Place Your Adsense Ads
You must place your Adsense ads within the body of your article. It's a proven fact that the area to the top right of the content receives the highest CTR.

Beyond the body copy the next two hotspots are across the top of the page and down the left hand side. The two areas that Net users naturally look to for a sites navigation.

5: Place Your Ad Links Ads
The Google Ad Links ads have been found to work best when placed either above or below the site navigation, again either across the top or down the left hand side.

A further boost can be had by 'blending' the look of the ads with your site navigation. By that I simply mean having your navigation match the ads in both font type, size and colour.

Many Adsense publishers have experienced a large boost in revenue after blending all there navigation to match their ads.

6: A Site Map
This is very important. Without a good site map to which you can add your newly uploaded content the search engines will never know you are updating your site. They'll never be able to find the new content without a link going to it.

Be sure not to forget to update your site map each time you add new site content.

Contextual Advertising is no doubt the hottest thing going these days. Everyone is talking about it and it seems almost everyone is using some sort of contextual advertising, whether it be Yahoo Publisher, Google Adsense, or some other program.

There are new companies cropping up all over the web offering to provide contextual advertising, so who knows which one will be the biggest or the best. And who knows what will be the next hot thing.

In this article, though, we are going to focus on placement of ads on the page. We are going to assume Google Adsense for our examples here. With me on the phone as I write this article is Chuck Crawford, who has built thousands of webpages that utilize Google Adsense.

Robin: Can you really make any money with Google Adsense or other contextual advertising or is it that a few websites who already had lots of traffic got lucky and everyone heard about it?
Chuck: Yes and yes. That's a trick question. Many companies with existing traffic have made and will continue to make money from Google Adsense, however Google Adsense has also become an excellent avenue for the would-be entrepreneur.

Robin: Do you prefer Google Adsense over Yahoo Publisher and others? And if you do, why?
Chuck: Yes and no. Google Adsense seems to be more contextually targeted than Yahoo Publisher at this time according to tests I have run on my own websites. Different programs will do better depending on the type of traffic your website has.

Robin: Chuck, how important is where I place my ads?
Chuck: I would say ad placement can absolutely make or break a webpage's performance.

Robin: Should I have more than one table with Google Adsense ads in them on a single webpage?
Chuck: It depends on the page itself. If the page is large, with a lot of content, you may want to consider multiple Adsense panels. If the page is small, I would suggest sticking to just one Google Adsense panel in the most prominent position.

Robin: Can I place the Google Adsense ads on the same page with my other contextual advertising?
Chuck: No. Even though many websites do, if you read the Google Adsense terms of service, you will find that this is not allowed. Having your account canceled is not worth it. Every webmaster that uses Google Adsense should know the terms of service backwards and forwards.

Robin: Why is one location for the ads better than others?
Chuck: Many studies suggest that the upper left-hand corner of the webpage is where the visitors eyes scan first. However, I have a different opinion. Each page is unique in its design, and when designing each page, you should look at the page and ask yourself, "What area of the page did you look at first?" What links did you look at first?" That is where you should place ads that pay you money.

Robin: Should you treat the Google Adsense ads as if they were links into your own website content?
Chuck: Yes. Blending the Google Adsense links with other links in your website will produce a higher click-through ratio for most webpages. Use color and size, which is allowed by the Google Adsense terms of service, to make the links similar to your other links.

Robin: What are some of the worst examples of the use of Google Adsense you can think of?
Chuck: The link farms and link dumps and common pages like "your email has been sent" have no value where Google Adsense is concerned and in some cases may breach the Google Adsense terms of service.

Robin: What are some of the best examples of how to use Google Adsense you know of?
Chuck: Of course the pages I have built for my customers and myself! No, seriously, content-specific websites focused on providing excellent information and a benefit to both the user and the website owner. It makes money for you as a website owner, it's useful to the visitor, productive for the Adwords clients and Google. Everyone wins.

Robin: What would you tell those out there who have websites with Google Adsense installed that are not making any money?
Chuck: Promotion is the key. A website with no traffic makes zero money. You must use many methods of traffic generation to get the surfers to your site in order for links to be clicked. It sounds like a no-brainer, but many webmasters spend weeks, months, or even years tweaking their website, changing their code, listening to SEO gurus, etc., when that time could have been spent better working on traffic development.

Contrary to popular belief less time should be spent building and optimizing the website and more time should be spent promoting the website and generating traffic.

Is there a BIG secret to the huge Adsense checks? Yes, you've seen those screen shots of 5-figure Adsense earning ... so have I. And that made you thinking, why are some people earning those huge income, and you are not.

Whatever people may say, I only see these are the only factors that make the difference between your earning and those 'big-guns'.

1 - Adsense Placement

Yes, putting your Adsense in a special way can be the difference between 1% click-through rate (CTR) and 10% CTR. There have been some strategies outlined where you have to make your Adsense like content. You do that by removing the borders and using the same font color that you are using for your website.

Choosing the bigger Adsense format has always been recommended. It is said that the big square, wide skyscraper are the top performer. Me ... yes, I am experiencing good things with these ad formats.

Some may say differently, but I am doing well with the Ad Links too. It's those text link ads, which requires two-step clicks. I place them like a navigation link on my website, and I am doing quite OK with them.

2 - High Paying Keywords

Here's another known secret. Go for high paying keywords. If your website is about a topic where advertisers are paying high money for them, then you may get more money with Adsense.

This is common sense. When people are paying $5.00 per click on Adwords, you may get a lot of money on your Adsense. And if the ads that are showing on your website are ads that people are paying $1.00 per click, you may get lesser than a dollar per click.

Known topics where advertisers are paying top dollars are like DUI lawyers, credit card applications, web hosting ... you know the rest. And you can even go to Overture Bid Tools to guess what people are paying for certain keywords. If you come across a topic that you think might do well, you can give a try there.

But the problem with this, high paying keywords are normally very competitive when you are trying to drive traffic with search engine optimization (SEO). So some would just go for low hanging fruits.

3 - Get More Traffic

Yep ... no secret here. The more traffic you get, the more clicks you are likely to get. And more clicks means more money. But then again, you should think about the type of websites that pull traffic.

I believe many of top earners are actually operating a community-based websites. These are like forums, photo blog service providers, blogs that has grown its readerships and maybe even dating profiles. Another way of doing this is where you build your website around user created content. You allow users to create the content, like put in comments and reviews.

These are the sites that where people keep coming back for more. The good thing is you don't have to crack your head for content. If you think you can build one like those, then go for it.

On the contrary, many are actually growing sites in smaller niches. And they go for SEO for traffic. I have to say that this is the most popular when it comes to Adsense.

You and I know there are the good ways and the bad ways to SEO - yes, the white hats and the black hats. Whatever you do, that is your choice. Some people are doing the black hats, but to them, as long as they are in compliance with the Adsense TOS, they have nothing to worry about.

To me, you do what you want and take responsibilities for the outcome. If you are doing black hat SEO, and you are making boatloads of money – then good for you.

And after that, there're the non-SEO methods. I know of some people who are doing the arbitrage method. They go for high paying keywords, and then advertise their sites for lower prices. And they make profit from the difference. It may sounds strange at first, but some actually made it work.

Other non-SEO methods are like posting at forums, writing articles and doing press releases on their websites.

I have also heard about a strategy where you create an e-course with email, and then send your subscribers to a web pages that contains the lessons and of course, Adsense. This way, you can capture one guy, and probably make money from him/her over and over again.

4 - It's a Numbers Game

All in all ... Adsense is a numbers game. If you find something that is working for you, to make more income is just to do it again and again. For the black hat SEOers, they just build more and more websites.

Unless you successfully build and grow a community-based website, you may want to build more sites. If you build one site that is making $100 a month, then 10 sites would give you $1000. But then again, I would say, you are bound to have sites that will just flop. So out of 10, maybe 3 is doing great, 4 is just so-so, and another 3 just flopped.

If a so-so site makes $30 a month, and a great site is doing $300 a month, with just 10 sites, you might be making $1020 a month.

Just like I said ... it's a numbers game.

Thanks to adsense, blogs, rss feeds and their listings -- not to mention an arsenal of free types of advertising -- it's possible to make a very good income without spending a penny and with minimal effort. The trick is to optimize for it.

PLEASE NOTE: Though adsense may have originated with Google's system, there are many other adsense-type programs available, all of which are as viable -- some even more so -- as theirs. The information included here applies to most of them.

While everyone else is busy optimizing for search engines, by optimizing for adsense, a site can feasibly pull enough traffic that simply clicks on the ads to forget about other forms of sales.

However, bear in mind that most adsense TOS agreements prevent any unfair or "fraudulent" clicking, even so much as a note saying, "click here to support this site," which risks banishment by most adsense companies. This, of course, is to protect those adwords customers who pay to have their ads displayed. It is they who are robbed (not the companies) when an ad is clicked irresponsibly. Furthermore Google, for one, can track clicks effectively enough to detect any artificial or irresponsible clicking will garner any income received this way.

With that in mind, by understanding how adsense-type programs work, one can optimize a page, legally, to create a substantial income. And while guidelines are designed primarily focused on adsense, many of these strategies will increase a sites' general revenue as well.

1. TOP SEARCHES
The first step is to design a site around the top searches. There are various tools (keyword selectors and zeitgeist, for example) that help gather this information. Of course, there is also the "niche marketing" school of thought, i.e., to find a smaller group that has less page-per-click competition. In this case, the ideal is to find a large audience-small page ratio. But after more than a year of marketers scouring the web for them, finding one is rare and searching for one can take a LOT of time. Not hours or days, but weeks or months.

2. HIGHEST PAYING KEYWORDS
Lists of these can be found simply by searching the internet. Of course combining the highest paying adsense keywords with Top Searches may make a very strange mix. Afterall, the top search (at the time of this writing) is Britney Spears while the top-paying words relate to mesothelioma and asbestos cancer. So, unless Britney Spears speaks out on mesothelioma, there's little chance these could be combined legally*. But, by looking down the lists there are more feasible combinations. The main thing to understand is it's only a combination of the two (high-paying keywords & top searches) that will bring enough traffic to garner any measurable LEGAL income from adsense.

3. PLACES, PLEASE
Placing the ads prominently on the site is a no-brainer, though some marketers still tend to hide them toward the bottom of the site. Another TOS factor, too, is a content-to-ad ratio that adsense programs used to insist on, but seem to be slipping. Generally the policy was no more than two banner ads per page though many sites that end up at the top of searches seem to flaunt this rule. But who knows how long they last, too. Traditionally, putting one banner across the top, just below the title, and one "skyscraper" down one side, with content in the middle is the best.

4. MULTI-PAGE IT
One pase allows for 2 ads, but more ads can be placed on each additional page on the site. For those lacking ideas for additional pages, the simplest page would be a separate contact page, as well as an "about us" or testimonial page, all of which are viable additions.

Incidently, it's ironic that so many marketers create mile-long splash pages rather than a group of pages and never add one adsense ad to them. As if, by doing this, it will garner more sales, when the truth is, they sacrifice as much as gain because these pages are rarely indexed and annoy visitors as many as they attract, simply because of their set up. Understand this: adsense is a way to profit from EXIT traffic, something that WILL occur at one point or another, no matter how wonderful the page.

5. HIGHLIGHT OR BLEND
Some prefer the adsense to blend into their site, almost hiding it from visitors. But this diminishes its effectiveness. Rather, by highlighting it, visitors will be more aware of it, allowing it to stand out. Of course, we'd all prefer our visitors to stay at OUR site, buy OUR product, etc. But the fact is, many won't. Isn't it better to gain something from their departure?

6. ADSEARCH
This feature is only available from some of the larger adsense programs. If it is available, placing it at the bottom of a page offers the visitor the convenience of doing a search without having to first go to the SE. Of course, many SEs and browsers offer toolbars that diminish the effectiveness of this. But adding it will create another exit point that is to your advantage-- and seems like a service, too.

7. AFRAID OF COMPETITION?
Some adsense programs offer a "block competition" option, one in which specific sites may be barred. However, to believe it's possible to effectively block ALL your competition is naive. Though it may at first seem outrageious to help advertise for the competition, again, at least one will gain from their advertisement (and, for those who need payback remember: the competition is paying you).

Each of these strategies increase a site's adsense revenue. By using all of them, the adsense ads will create a steady revenue stream which will increase with the site's traffic stream.--mo

1) Ad Placement
Many websites try to hide the fact they have ads. They put them at the bottom of the page or only have one or two that are so small, the rest of the page distracts from them. While it's okay not to want to bombard your visitors with a site of ads, those ads are also a crucial part of keeping your business functioning. If magazines tried to bury their ads under all the content, they wouldn't be in business for very long, would they? Your site should be the same way. Place ads where they can easily be viewed and where they're visible to your visitors.

2) Ad Text Color
The text color of your ads should match the text color of your site. If you use bright blue for headlines on your site, use that for your AdSense headlines as well. This makes it appear as if the ads are part of the content.

3)Page Content
Choose a broad niche for your site, then break it down into smaller niches. Those smaller niches go on separate pages. This is also site organization and will help you place better-targeted ads. For example, if you have a computer site, break it down into sub niches: repairing computers, new computers, used computers, software, etc.

If you lump things together on one page and don't organize, you'll find that your CTR will be lower because your content is unorganized and scattered; therefore, your ads aren't as helpful to the visitor as you may think.

4) Don't Label Them as Ads
Don't label them as ads or sites sponsors. Although these are the only two terms allowed by Google, there's no need to point out that these are ads. It will just prevent them from blending in with the content of your site. Since the ads are targeted, if you allow them to, they will appear to be additional information on what your visitors are already interested in. Don't put a sign there letting them know they're wrong and it is, indeed, a "dreadful" ad.

5) Ad Appearance
Take away the border and background colors of your AdSense ads. These make them stand out as ads rather than information your visitors will be interested in. As said earlier, your ads should blend into the page. By making them appear as information you're providing, you're giving them another point of interest rather than an ad that many people might shy away from.

6) Expand Your Site
Expanding your site and adding pages should go hand in hand. However, expanding your site could just mean adding and refining content. It's important that you add pages with quality content as well. This increases your search engine ranking and gives more pages for AdSense ads.

7) Move the Ads
Sometimes return visitors only see what's new or what's changed. Move your ads from time to time, especially if you notice your CTR dropping. More often than not, you'll see an increase again as those same return visitors notice something in a different place and actually start to click through the same ads they didn't "see" last week.

8) Ad Format
Wider ads appeal to more visitors because they're easier to read. If something is easy to read, someone is more likely to take the time to read everything rather than just glancing at the first few words. However, it's important to balance your ads and the content on your pages. You'll discover that the way you think the ads should be for optimal CTR aren't always where they need to be. 10) Use Text Ads, not Image Ads

People unconsciously ignore ads, not because they aren't interested in the products or services that are being offered, but a natural instinct to focus on the material they're reading and block out "distractions". Remember: they're on the web to look for information. That can be a particular song they want to download, an article on their favorite celebrity, or a chicken recipe they can cook for dinner. They're concentrating on that issue, and their minds are quickly filtering out whatever seems to intrude on that search. That includes the background noise of the room they happen to be surfing in, and the visual noise on the web page.

Ads are said to be "visual noise", and ironically, the larger (and more obvious) the ad, the more likely it'll be ignored. That seems to go against all instincts of advertising—bigger should be better, right? That may work on a highway, when a looming billboard will catch your either whether you plan to look or not, but on the Internet, there are just too many ads. As a gut-reaction, the eye skips over anything that looks like the "traditional" advertising banners, regardless of the text contained in them. That's why if you look at the studies, 468 x 60 ads, and the 728 x 90 ads, actually get the lowest click through rate.

But the challenge of Adsense is to make people read the ad, and click on it. How do you accomplish that if the brain automatically dismisses your message as "junk"? Simple: by not looking like an ad, and then inserting yourself at the point where people would be most interested in what you say. Then, website viewers not only notice you, but see you as a valid solution (or at least, a possible solution) to a pressing problem.

The Color of Money
Traditional graphic design principles will tell you to use bright, contrasting colors to get somebody's attention (it's also called the "bright neon sign" phenomenon). But for Adsense, you get better results when you take the subtle approach and blend into the page that you're on. Instead of looking like an ad, you are seen as a valid editorial content: as informative, helpful, and credible as the article they happen to be reading.

That's why your ad background and its border colors should be the same color as the web page on which it's located. If your website's white, then your ad assumes that color; if it's blue, then you know what shade to pick. This isn't sneaky, it's reader psychology. Advertisers in magazines have been doing it for years - not copying the color, but the font of the magazine pages. Readers are then more likely to continue reading the ad text rather than skipping it over it because it's "not part of the page". By the time they realize that it's an ad, they're intrigued by the benefit being offered (and if they aren't, at least they know about you - much more than what you would have accomplished if the ad had been dismissed). By applying this principle to your Ad Sense, you get better results.

Another trick: use the standard blue color for your links, but make the advertiser's URL (the domain name below the ad text) in a very unobtrusive color and size. Combine this trick with making the rest of your website content a non-traditional color that is not as noticeable as blue (for example, a dark green), and you have a more subtle way of drawing attention to your Adsense links. Readers will gravitate towards the link, thinking that it is a neutral and objective way of finding more information, and click. And you know what that means for Adsense revenues.

Location, Location, Location

As they say in business, location is the secret to success: be where your market needs you (and in this case, reads you). For example, avoid placing ads on the left or right periphery of the page: people don't bother looking there, since the webtext flow is from top to bottom. Unless a photo or other graphical element pulls their eyes to the side, there is no reason for them to look beyond those margins. Plus, Internet users are conditioned to look for content in the center- so you also have to be in the center to be deemed "valid content".

This rule is particularly true for people who have a very specific question or concern and found the page by typing key words into a search engine. They are not interested in anything outside that query. To get their attention, place a large rectangular ad above your content (for example, the top center column) but below the title. Then, choose a message that is related to the key words that were probably used. For example, if it's a website about "widgets", and your article is a review on the latest "blue widgets" then Ad Sense on "Find Cheap Widgets Now!" would have a high percentage of clicks.

Why does placing Ad Sense underneath the title work so effectively?

Because there is an immediate association with content. Your website title summarizes the topic or concern, the text expounds on it, and your Ad Sense is sandwiched within those two very important elements. You would not get this kind of click through if you placed it above the title, where it's perceived as literally "outside" the topic and hence, irrelevant or secondary.

Since Google allows you to put three ad blocks, where do you put the other two? At the end of the content, preferably above the Author's Box. This reaches the educated, and perhaps slightly more cynical reader, who had preferred to read up on the topic and is now ready to make an intelligent, informed decision about what products or services to buy. You can place a third ad block at the side if you have a short article or are concerned about cluttering the site. Otherwise, put it within the content, catching visitors who may be quickly bored with the article and may not reach the end of it, and is willing to "click away" from the site (and hopefully to the advertisers).

It's worthwhile to examine Google's definition of Google AdSense and Click Fraud , before delving deeper into "AdSense Fraud".

Google AdSense fraud is one of the diseases that plague the Ad Words advertisers. The AdSense program essentially allows website publishers/owners to sign up with Google, enabling them to display Google Ads on their sites. These publishers essentially act as "Google Partners". The ads chosen by the Google bot for display are contextual and the ads are related to the contents of the publisher's website, more specifically that particular web page. The intent for Google is to capitalize on the traffic to these (in practice) niche sites and provide highly direct targeted traffic to the advertiser. A subset of the users of the Google Partner website, click on those ads and Google charges the advertiser per click. Google shares the booty with the website publisher but the revenue sharing ratio falls under Google's "undisclosed" criteria. While the exact amount can be reverse engineered, the take home lesson is that the final amount is proportional to Google's income from that click.

In theory it's a match made in heaven. The advertiser gets good ROI through targeted traffic, the publisher gets to monetize the traffic on their website and the web browser gets to buy that classic CD that he couldn't live without. Not to mention that Google gets a wad of cash. The gods of lucre smile beneficently on all.

Unfortunately, this happy facade hides blemishes. Severe ones. For all Google AdSense Publishers are not created equal. While (we daresay) many advertisers have a genuine website, providing a valuable or interesting service to the world wide community, there is a significant number of unscrupulous operators who are out there to prey on the advertisers. These creatures of the night (and we will explain later why we use that term), make websites for the express purpose of milking AdSense revenue.

This category of fraudsters deserves a taxonomy of its own, which we have developed (the other categories, click fraud and impression fraud are even bigger problems in some industries). In the interest of not being gender biased, we have alternated between genders. We hope that our lighthearted tone does not mask the revulsion that we feel towards these cheats.

Regressive Fraudster ( aka ClickMonkey):

This guy is at the bottom of the food chain. Inspired by the riches of his neighbor Ms. Jones, who has been making more than ten grand a month in AdSense revenue, he plans a course of action. He "invests" in a clickbot software( a simple google search reveals many) and gets a list of anonymous proxy addresses. He then goes to register a few domains and hires someone off of elance to create a "network of sites"and "click bot". He hopes that the interlinked sites will provide each some "link popularity" and increase his page rank. If only it were that simple! He then proceeds to use the 30 dollar clickbot to start clicking on the sites. Or he could click on them himself manually using the proxies. We don't call him click monkey for nothing. He clicks and clicks all the way to see his account getting banned. No banana for this monkey! His calls of despair to google fall on deaf ears. This person is likely to quit, but sometimes retries to get up the food chain, the Wanna -Be-Fraudster.

Wanna -Be Fraudster ( aka BOZO):

This girl searches for high paying keywords like "home loan equity" (current ad words rate: 45 dollar), or "web hosting" (ad words costing 20 dollar). She correctly guesses that the AdSense payout is proportional to what Google earns and therefore homes in on such words. Her strategy is to make a page with contents that are appropriate for the targeted high payout keyword. She moves ahead by clicking on the link multiple times and recruits friends and family to give them a click. Or ten!
Little does she know that Google has a 45 day inspection period before she get her nubby little fingers on that cash. With little to no knowledge of Click through Ratio , her greed couples with her ignorance. Seeing her ill-gotten paper wealth multiplying in her AdSense interface, she increases the clicks. Google however inspects the CTR and throws a fit when they see a CTR exceeding 20%. Furthermore, Google notices clicks mostly originating from a few IP addresses and that essentially seals her fate (or rather docks her earnings). That virtual cash is now just some deleted bytes on a hard disk on Google's servers. She moans, nay she rail against the cruelty of Google's policy. Some of these people wisely cease and desist such activities, perhaps philosophizing about the NFL (no free lunch) theorem. Others however see it as ground school for the next stage of nefarious behavior. The Almost-There Fraudster.

Almost-There Fraudster ( aka SmartAlec ):

The archetypical ATF is supremely confident in his ability to fool Google. Like the BOZO, he looks for high paying keywords and makes appropriate website(s). Let's assume that he is in a third world country, just to make the case more interesting. The case described here is 1 year old news. He has read this article and taken the learnt the subsequent lesson . He knows that that the clicks from the IP Addresses of USA, UK & Canada are worth much more than the clicks from the IP Addresses from the third world countries. He therefore seeks to befriend people from such IP addresses by logging onto messenger services.
This way, he gets the unique, unrelated IP clicks and (he hopes) that Google is fooled. Remember "creature of the night". Well, these people typically are more than a few time zone removed from the US or Canada and therefore are up at odd hours whenever they feel that their targets are most likely to be active. Plus they sometimes have to deal with "inconveniences" like a day job.
AT fraud thinks that the clicks he obtained by trolling on these sites is a job well done. He has got clicks from the IP address of his choice .. An interesting factoid is that for AdSense, state also matters. Clicks from Washington and New York State have the highest payout for AdSense Fraud.
He has just one problem. His tragic flaw. While he worked so hard to get the unique IP and high earnings, he is not able to maintain a good CTR. He is likely to cross the limit of 30-40% of daily CTR and 10-20% of overall CTR. He ends up in the same purgatory as the BOZO. The account is banned, and he gets the abominated email. Yes, the "AdSense account closure". Almost-There is never good enough in this nether world of AdSense gaming. Although it is possible that he would have made a few thousand dollars before the punishment catches up to his crime. Crime doesn't quite pay, now does it? Well, gentle reader, unfortunately crime _is_ paying to the next category. Fraudster Maestro ( aka Satan's Spawn).

Fraudster Maestro ( aka Satan's Spawn):

This category of fraudsters is the most sophisticated and rarely gets caught by google . She has researched the high paying keywords as well as the CTR issues well. She has the smoothest lines in the business of soliciting clicks. She can flirt online, and ask to click the "link" for her picture. Or she may claim that clicking the link causes the hungry child to be fed in Ethiopia . Let's follow a typical "simple" chat session:

US User : hello
FM Fraud: what are your coordinates, handsome?
US User : NY , NY
FM Fraud: Oh! Wish I could be there. Can you help out a damsel in distress?
US User : sure
AT Fraud: I have made a site and want to see if all the links on this page are working or not. Can you please click on the links and see if the other page loads?
US User: Sure. Link?
FM Fraud:www.fraudstersite.com/high-value-keyword-page.html
US User : wait! Yes I checked all the links and they are working fine.
FM Fraud:
Thanks
US User : so can we talk about you now? ( Message Not Delivered as the fraudster has blocked the User and is busy looking for a new victim)

And she has lots of tricks up her repertoire besides chatting up strangers. She knows about opt in lists, usenet and blogs where she can snare the victims. Technically savvy and able to empathize with her victims she doesn't let arrogance get in her way to success. Since she is very mindful of the CTR issues she has a secret weapon. She has optimized her site for some low paying keywords which are really not competitive. She organically gets lots of traffic (but for things unrelated to those competitive high paying keywords). In her website, she may be giving away free greeting cards Or free screensavers. End result is a fabulous impression count. The second step for her is to makes unrelated pages on the same site and these pages pertain to the high paying keywords. These keywords are used to attract the victims of chat sessions. The process of getting the clicks is different but the results due to CTR are very lucrative.

So, how does all this geek talk affect the PPC advertiser? It's a 5 billion+ dollar market(for exact projections onto the future, please check out our FAQ, and with a 20% + fraud rate, we are talking about a 1 BILLION dollars fraud per year. Even Dr. Evil may be impressed by such a number. It's greater than the cumulative GNP of a few banana republics. And a fair chunk is ending up in the coffers of these fraudsters. We know from anecdotal evidence, how people are clearing up to 20 grand a month. All, courtesy of the hapless PPC advertiser.

We want to emphasize that there are lots of authentic sites serving genuine content. But unfortunately the existence of these people (as discussed above) reduces the ROI of many advertisers to the extent that they rethink their interest in PPC. In the word of one of our organic SEO customers, with PPC "you always get a little less back than you put in". It needn't be that way, if you watch carefully where your ad words traffic is coming from and take some steps (such as traffic analysis or at the very least a log file analysis) to protect arm yourself. Look for patterns, some of which are obvious(such as large traffic spikes from India). Unfortunately other patterns may require a doctorate in artificial intelligence. Still the keyword is to stay nimble. Convincing search engines to refund money is a lot tougher and a lot more work than proactively watching for problem visitors and taking steps that you deem appropriate. Before the situation goes out of hand. Remember, an ounce of prevention…

Some things you can do to stay ahead of the game. This is by NO means an exhaustive list, but it's a start. It's sorted by the level of protection in ascending that you may need.

1. Let your visitors know that you are tracking them and know quite a bit about them. For instance, if you visit www.sofizar.com , you will see information about yourself. You can display this information to all your visitors, or only to some of them. It can be in-your-face or subtle, but it will remind at least some of the fraudsters that they are being watched. Sofizar provides free sample code and connection to its database allowing you to display "premium" information(like City, ISP, ISP contact number).

2. Invest in a serious visitor tracking software. Set alarms based on the number of times a person clicks on your site in a certain time period(hourly, weekly, monthly). Display the same information to someone who is definitely PPCing your budget to death, as a custom message box. Something harsh, if the pattern keeps up. "We are logging the usage, and we are noticing that you keep clicking on our site through PPC. If you don't cease, we would be forced to call your local ISP at +91-23-344-5678" (if you see the information that we can glean about visitors, you will know we can get even more specific). This will weed some of the casual fraudsters.

3. Start checking for things that we have discussed earlier, by investing in an industrial strength data collection package. Based on your data collection, one strategy is to score each visitor, deducting(or adding points), based on the following (non exhaustive) list.

a. Visitor conversion/past conversion history.
b. Visit Depth Analysis.
c. Visit Time Analysis(time spent on each page, and time of day the visit happens).
d. Cookies/Javascript/"Unknown OS"
e. Keyword Cost analysis.
f. Anonymous Proxy Server
g. Is part of "Fraudster list".
h. Country/Localization analysis(are you really targeting people in Sao Paolo , Brazil for your French Restaurant in New York ?).

4. Do pattern matching.

See what your top 20% of your customers do as part of a "macro pattern" and match the visitor against that pattern.
Keep in mind that you will get a few "false positives" and vice versa. A few innocent people may get tagged unfairly as "fraudsters" while a few "fraudsters" may well give you the slip. It's not an exact science, but over a period of time you can get fairly close. If you decide to take up your case with Google, you have to make a very convincing case. All based on meticulous data, instead of (what may be considered by them as) paranoia.
Over the long term, as the threat evolves and the fraudsters improve, you have to keep adapting your strategy using your friends, diligent data collection, statistics and pattern matching.

From what I am reading in online forums and discussion boards, Google adsense is still ruling the roost, in terms of popularity, for those wanting to start earning money from home.

I personally, have Google adsense ads on most of my websites and I find that even with the lowest of daily impressions an income can be earned. Ok you won't make a fortune with a few hits per day but if you are constantly building websites and optimizing them for adsense then the income can REALLY add up.

A few of my most recent websites are only getting 10-20 impressions per day but really high click through rates. Some days I can earn $2-$3 per site for a couple of clickthroughs from these low traffic sites. This denotes HIGH interest from advertisers paying big bucks to Google for certain keywords.

Unbelievably, many entrepreneurs are earning six figure incomes per month from adsense revenue alone.

The smart earners are building site after site then building out the ones that show potential.

The idea is to set up sites in relatively unknown markets but also balanced with some interest in the advertising field. For instance, if you choose a niche with little or no interest from advertisers then the income will reflect this lack of interest, ie. no one will be paying google for advertising in your niche or they will be paying very little and you will earn pittance per click thru.

One site of mine in an obscure niche gets hundreds of unique visitors per day and loads of adsense clickthrus, yet the income is only a dollar or two daily. This tells me that advertisers are paying very little, probably in and around 10 cents, for keywords in my niche.

At the other end of the spectrum you DO NOT want to choose a niche with so much competition that you cannot get any traffic at all. The "work at home", "home business", "internet marketing" niches are not good examples for a newcomer to make money from Google adsense. The competition is just too great. If you DO already have an established home business site then by all means add some adsense ads to your site.

Like everything else I have done online I have learnt through trial and error, Google adsense has been no different. If you don't put the ads out there then you will never know the potential.

I do get some clickthrus from my home business sites and the click thru rates can be anything from 10-15 cents to $1-2. Not bad!

Google adsense is definitely here to stay for the forseeable future and we can all see why. If you have any vision at all you can see the potential in earning from Google adsense and exactly why it has become so popular.

Here are a view tips on how to maximise your profit.

1. Place your adsense blocks in the hot spots of your site. Those hot spots are in the top of the page, the left or the right side and in the center of the page. If will place an adsense in the footer of a website that has a lot of content you can just figure it out for yourself that people will get rarely to that ad.

2. The colors of the adsense links must have the same colors of your site's links.

3. Don't make your site's background color a dark one. People won't be able to read the content very good and won't see the adsense links that well either. Keep your background color white. You can't go wrong with that.

4. Make your adsense blocks blend with the content. As long as you make people think the adsense links are part of your site they'll keep clicking those ads and make you the money.
Put the ads exactly below your top menu and make it look like it shows some submenus.
You can also put it in the center of your site right next to your site's content. That way people will think those links are related to the content and will click on them.

5. Another trick I've seen that it's starting to catch up is putting some small images on top of your adsense links. The eyes of the visitors are more attracted to the images than the text sow you get them to look at the ads in a short time. They'll think the links have relevancy with the images and once again they'll click on them.

If you're new to AdSense, getting motivated to write original content can be difficult. Writing content takes time, and it also takes time to get the content advertised and get links into each page. If you still have a day job, it can be tough to make the time.

One way to motivate yourself to create the content and get the links is to calculate how much you are earning per page per year. Multiply that times any number of pages and you will have a good idea of how much money you are missing out on by NOT creating content and getting links.

Let's take an example. Let's say that you have 100 pages of content that are earning you $100 a month.

That means that each page is making you, on average, $1 per month, or $12 per year.

$12 per year may not sound like much, but let's say that you created one unique article every 3 days and got a few links to that article with link exchanges, etc. 365 days in a year means that in one year you will have added and linked about 122 additional pages of content.

122 pages of content times $12 per year is $1,464 that you are missing out on every year because you are not creating new content.

Now, let's say that you can write and link one page per day. That's 365 pages per year, or $4,380 per year.

Of course, if you focus on the high paying keywords, you are much more likely to generate more than $12 per year per page. If you focus on the right keywords, you could make as much as $100 per page per year or more!

Do the math with that number, and you'll see that adding and linking one page ever 3 days will earn you an extra $12,200 per year. Writing one page per day will earn you an extra $36,500 per year!

And keep in mind that every year you will add additional content, which means that your earnings will grow and grow as time goes on.

The truth is, once you start creating a lot of quality content and getting just a few links to each page, the initial traffic you get will start to spread the word about your site. Next thing you know your site is getting hundreds of links from all over the place, and you didn't have to ask for them!

Traffic will start to build, your search engine rankings will improve, and in time you will be earning sums of money that you didn't dream of before–all because you took a few hours a week to devote to creating quality content and getting a few links.

So adopt a long-term AdSense vision, and in time you will reap the rewards.

Content is King. How many times have you heard that? Do you believe it? I used to. But then I stopped to think how ridiculous that statement really is. Content is not King. Something far more valuable is King.

Well, not really King. What you want is more democratic in nature. You want visitors. After all, if you have ten million fantastic articles of top-notch unbeatable quality but have no visitors, what do you have really?

Don't get me wrong, as an AdSense publisher you want to be constantly creating quality content and adding it to your site. But you're creating the content for the sake of the visitors, not the other way around.

Once you've created a quality article and posted it to your site, it's time to market that article. Submit it to the major article directories (articlecity.com, ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com). Get links directly to the article from other sites. Find blogs on the topic and ask them to review your article on their blog. Make sure that article gets seen! Doing this will also help rank your article in the search engines.

It's a lot more beneficial to go out and market an article (and earn more money because of it) than it is to continually write new content that nobody is seeing because you never market it. Plus it's a great motivator when you see your best articles getting a lot of traffic and earning you money.

One great article can bring in hundreds or thousands of visitors, many of whom will browse your site looking for other great content. Be sure you take advantage of that by getting those visitors on an email list. Offer them some free gifts if they are willing to opt-in and be notified when you post new content. You want to keep those visitors coming back and earning you more money.

AdSense is considered by many a throw-away-traffic business: webmasters try to get a visitor to their page once in the hopes that they will click an ad, but they completely ignore the fact that if you give the visitor incentives to come back again you can earn money from two, three, five, twenty clicks or more from the same visitor over time!

In my experience with thousands of my AdSense Gold customers, I've noticed that new AdSense publishers tend to make the same mistakes. I made them too when I was new to AdSense.
I've decided to discuss 3 of the big mistakes with you so that you can have a head start and avoid these AdSense pitfalls. They are:

Selecting The Wrong Topics

When I first started out with AdSense, I was one eager beaver. I wanted to create as many pages as I could, and I didn't care what topic they were about as long as it wasn't adult or
gambling.

I put up a site on Old Time Radio Shows, and I was excited to see that I made a few dollars a month with it. What I didn't realize at the time is that my $0.10 clicks were the bottom of the proverbial AdSense barrel in terms of earnings.

I didn't know then that it paid to research the good, high paying topics. So I just put up sites on whatever I could think of that seemed easy to rank for in the search engines.

Once I realized that I could do a little keyword research and find out how much the keywords were worth, then I started focusing on the higher paying niches and started seeing the $1, $2, $5, $10 clicks and up. I don't get that much with every click, but often enough to keep me very happy!

So research your topics first using the AdWords Traffic Estimator Tool, or a good high paying keywords list such as Keyword Explosion.

Too Many Topics on One Site
Another mistake I see newbies make very often (and I made myself when I was a newbie) is having too many topics put on one website. I've seen sites that target everything from alphalpha to Zoro!
That's a bad idea for two main reasons:

1. It makes it hard to optimize your site.
You want your domain name to be targetted to the topic of the site (a great search engine optimization technique). If you have every manner of topic on the site, you can't do this and lose out on the power that a great domain name can have with the search engines.

2. Google's Smart Pricing doesn't like it.
If you're not familiar with it, SmartPricing is what Google uses to figure out how much your page is worth in relation to the ads showing on the page. The more Smart Pricing likes your pages, the more you will get paid per click.
One of the things I've seen with Smart Pricing is that it likes tightly focused, targetted sites. You might have a lot of pages on one site, but they need to be related to each other.
"But I can't afford more than one domain right now," you might protest.
If that's the case, the best thing you can do is to create subdomains for each of the categories that your site targets.
For example, if you have a site that targets "alphalpha" and "Zoro", have two subdomains:
http://alphalpha.mydomain.com/
http://zoro.mydomain.com/
Do not have the subdomains link to each other either. That way Google seems them as seperate "mini-sites".

Be Careful What Kind of Traffic You Send To Your Sites
Not all traffic sources are created equal. There are a lot of sites out there selling "one hundred thousand visitors to your site for $49.95!" and the like.
What most of these sites do is use software to "simulate" a visit to your site. They are not real people. I've tested this extensively with a couple of vendors who sell this kind of traffic, and not once have I ever gotten any "real" people.

The problem is that sometimes those bots goof and "click" the ads by following the links.
Google sometimes sees those clicks as fraudulent, and many a new AdSense publisher has lost his account because of it.

So beware of shady or "too good to be true" traffic promises, they will only hurt you!

Focus on search engine optimization and link trading, that's where you're going to get the most bang for your buck.
